In an effort to supply diesel-run trucks with fuel and remedy the chronic supply of diesel in general, and especially to neglected trucks operators, and in response to instructions by the Tripoli government to remedy the beleaguered truck operators this summer, Brega Petroleum Marketing Company has opened three fuel stations on a 24-hour basis dedicated to supplying diesel-run trucks.
It will be recalled that this comes during a chaotic Libyan summer of power cuts that have affected the operation of petrol stations.
The extreme power cuts and blackouts have also resulted in a run on diesel causing shortages and black-market prices to spike to multiple times the official price of LD 0.15/litre.
Some punters have been forced to buy a litre of diesel for LD 8 per litre in order to operate their home or commercial generator.
With the importance of diesel to operate power generators domestically and commercially, truck drivers had been pushed to the back of the priority queue. This, however, has negatively affected trade and industry and the government, armed with fresh diesel deliveries, is now seeking to remedy this.
Brega said this move is part of the work of the Committee for Improving Basic Services for Citizens—tasked by the Prime Minister—and is being coordinated with the Regional Security Directorates Support Agency.
The Agency is responsible for organizing and securing supply operations at the stations that have already entered service:
Station 406 – Al-Ahya Al-Barriya
Station 396 – Al-Hadba Project
Station 062 – Al-Hadba Project
The Agency is also finalizing the setup of two mobile stations on Airport Road—near the former traffic light location—in preparation for their entry into service once equipment installation is complete.
These measures are part of practical steps aimed at easing bottlenecks, regulating truck traffic, and ensuring the smooth, continuous supply of diesel fuel to the transport sector.
