A meeting was held yesterday at the Tripoli Libyan government’s Cabinet Office between the Committee Overseeing the Implementation of the 2026 Tuna Fishing Season and the Executive Secretariat of the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT).
The meeting focused on ways to enhance technical and institutional cooperation in the management and sustainability of tuna fisheries and to develop the tuna fishing sector in Libya in accordance with international standards and ICCAT regulations.

The meeting addressed mechanisms for improving technical and administrative operations and raising the efficiency of fisheries management to ensure the sustainability of marine resources and adherence to international standards and regulations governing this vital sector.

Key topics of discussion included supporting research centers in the fisheries sector and strengthening their role in scientific studies and assessments of fish stocks. At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties emphasized the importance of strengthening the strategic partnership in this field, which supports the sustainability of marine resources, contributes to achieving economic development, and enhances food security in Libya.
