Tax Authority launches Unified Tax System and activation of Tax Police’s role – recent high revenue collection rates commended

The Libyan Tax Authority announced last Friday (12 December) the official announcement of the launch of the Unified Tax System, along with the introduction of several digital platforms scheduled to become operational in 2026, as part of the Tax Authority’s digital transformation plan and modernization of its technological infrastructure.

Activation of the Tax Police
The Tax Authority also announced the activation of the Tax Police’s role in the coming phase, in direct coordination with the Minister of the Interior, to ensure enhanced oversight, increased compliance, and a reduction in violations that hinder the tax system’s operation.

Monitoring performance, addressing most significant challenges
The announcements came during the Regular 2025 Meeting chaired by the Head of the Libyan Tax Authority of department and office directors from across the country in Tripoli, in the presence of the Deputy Head of the Authority. This meeting was held to directly monitor the performance of the various sectors and address the most significant challenges facing operations.

Commended for high revenue collection rates
During the meeting, the Head of the Authority commended the directors for their efforts that resulted in high revenue collection rates during the past period. He emphasized that this outstanding performance deserved recognition and announced the commencement of bonus payments to all Authority employees in appreciation of their contributions.

The meeting addressed several organizational matters. The Head of the Authority affirmed his commitment to overcoming all difficulties facing tax departments and offices and to providing the necessary resources to ensure more effective performance, thereby contributing to improved service quality and the sustainability of the state’s financial resources.

The Head of the Authority also listened to individual presentations from department and office directors to identify field challenges and find practical and swift solutions that would enhance performance efficiency and ensure smooth operations in all branches.

Strengthening stability of state’s public finances
The Tax Authority said this meeting is part of a series of periodic meetings aimed at supporting tax institutions and developing their performance to meet current needs and strengthen the stability of the state’s public finances.
