Third edition of Libya Clean Exhibition opens under auspices of Ministry of Local Government

Minister of Local Government discusses joint programmes and strengthening development cooperation with GIZ

The third edition of the Libya Clean Exhibition for Environment and Cleaning Services opened yesterday at the Tripoli International Fairgrounds. The event is held under the strategic sponsorship of the Ministry of Local Government.

Attendees included the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Local Government for Municipal Affairs, Mustafa Ahmed Salem; the Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry of Water Resources, Abdul Salam Nasr Jad Al-Mawla; the Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Local Administration at the Ministry of Local Government, Nasr Al-Mahtout; the Director of the General Administration for Environmental Sanitation, Ibrahim Bin Dakhil; a representative from the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock; the Director-General of the Planning Institute; several mayors; and a number of officials, dignitaries, and those interested in environmental issues.

The Libya Clean Exhibition aims to promote environmental awareness through workshops and educational lectures on the importance of environmental conservation, present the latest technologies and sustainable solutions in waste management, and encourage and attract investment in sustainable environmental projects.

In his opening remarks, the Undersecretary for Municipal Affairs, Mustafa Ahmed Salem, welcomed the attendees, emphasizing that the Libya Clean Exhibition for Environment and Sanitation Services has become a prominent annual event reflecting the growing environmental awareness in our country and demonstrating the significant attention the state and the Ministry of Local Government are giving to developing the environment and sanitation sectors across all municipalities.

The Undersecretary added that the environment and sanitation sectors represent the cornerstone of community safety and health and are the most important factor in improving the urban landscape within our cities. He affirmed the Ministry of Local Government’s full support for all initiatives aimed at improving the quality of municipal services, raising the level of public cleanliness, promoting a culture of community participation, and empowering municipalities to fulfil their developmental and service roles in a way that meets citizens’ aspirations and enhances their quality of life.

The Undersecretary noted that recent years have witnessed significant efforts to strengthen the capacities of municipalities in the field of waste management and improve public sanitation. This has been achieved through supporting municipalities with equipment and machinery, organizing awareness campaigns, launching partnerships with the private sector and specialized companies, and developing legislation and practices that enable municipalities to perform their roles optimally.

During his speech, Ibrahim Bin Dakhil, Director General of the General Administration for Environmental Sanitation Affairs, expressed his great pleasure and pride at being present at the “Libya Clean” exhibition, which represents an important step towards raising environmental awareness and highlighting the efforts made to maintain the cleanliness of the environment and society.

Bin Dakhil reviewed the participation of the General Administration for Environmental Sanitation Affairs in this edition of the Libya Clean exhibition through its various pavilions, which showcased the latest projects and programs in the field of cleanliness, integrated waste management, and modern technological solutions.

The Director General of the General Administration for Environmental Sanitation Affairs thanked all the supporting entities participating in the exhibition and all sectors within the various ministries, emphasizing that institutional integration among all sectors is the cornerstone for the success of the programs through which the country is developing.

At the conclusion of the opening events, the participants toured the exhibition halls and visited a number of pavilions, including the pavilions of the General Administration for Environmental Health Affairs, the Waste Management Department, the Municipal Development and Decentralization Support Centre, the National Programme for Small and Medium Enterprises, Urban Planning, the Local Contact Centre 1415, the Ministry of Water Resources pavilion, the Planning Institute, Shams Al Khaleej Company for Medical Waste Disposal, the National Committee for Combating Desert Locusts, the International Plastic Recycling Company, and other companies specializing in the fields of waste and manufacturing.
