The Libyan Serbian Business Forum was held in Tripoli yesterday with the participation the Minister of Economy and Trade Mohamed Al-Hwej and in the presence of Nikola Stojanovic, Secretary of State at the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and head of the participating Serbian delegation.
Investment promotion legal environment discussed
The forum dealt with the extent of the economic and trade relationship between Libya and Serbia and ways to enhance cooperation in the fields of investment and trade. The attendees discussed the legal environment and legislation that supports the promotion of investments between the two countries, with participants stressing the importance of Libya’s location as a strategic gateway linking Europe and Africa, making it an important economic partner for Serbia in the region.
Need to develop agreements concluded between the two countries
During his speech, Minister Hwej stressed the importance of strengthening economic and trade relations between Libya and Serbia, which represents a strategic step to open new horizons of cooperation that contribute to supporting the economic development of both countries. He said Libya and Serbia can play an important role in linking Europe and Africa by exploiting their geographical location, which contributes to creating trade routes linking continents and strengthening the global economy. Hwej noted that Libya welcomes all local and international investors to contribute to building a diversified and stable economy, stressing the need to develop the agreements concluded between the two countries in a way that enhances opportunities to benefit from modern methods in activating the knowledge economy and mutual benefit.
Call for establishment of Libyan Serbian training centre
The Minister also called for the establishment of a joint Libyan Serbian training centre, aimed at keeping pace with technological development and enhancing the exchange of experiences between the two countries in various fields. He noted that this cooperation will contribute to the development of Libyan cadres in line with international standards.
Holding a trade exhibition
The Minister of Economy directed the organising of an exhibition that brings together Libyan and Serbian companies in cooperation with the General Union of Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture and the Chambers of Commerce of the two countries.
Forum is a first step towards resumption of economic cooperation
For his part, the Secretary of State at the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Economy reported, stressed that the Libyan Serbian Business Forum is a first step towards the resumption of economic cooperation and trade exchange between the two countries. He pointed out that the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, which includes many companies and businessmen active in various fields, will be a pivotal element in this cooperation.
The forum was attended by the Chairman of the Libyan General Authority for Exhibitions and Conferences, Ambassador of the State of Libya to the Republic of Serbia, Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to Libya, Director General of the Privatisation and Investment Board (PIB), Chairman of the General Authority for Information, Director of the International Cooperation Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Director of the General Protocol Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and a group of ambassadors and government officials, in addition to a number of directors of departments in ministries, institutions and businessmen.
Today, Nikola Stojanovic, Secretary of State at the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and head of the participating delegation, also met PM Aldabaiba at the Cabinet Office.
