The Benghazi Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture announced to all businesses and merchants on Thursday the launch of the transit trade caravan (convoy) from the port of Jaliana, Benghazi Free Zone to Chad, via Kufra.
The transit trade convoy, branded the Al-Jowfe Caravans, is conducted by the Al-Watan Transport and Logistics Services and Al-Watan Shipping Agencies. The Benghazi Chamber reports that company transports all types of goods in transit to Chad. Their service includes ‘‘protection and tracking through Libyan territory’’, passing through the Al-Jowfe Free Zone in the southern city of Kufra.
Al-Watan Holding Company reports that it launched its Al-Jowfe Caravans Initiative from Benghazi in February this year due to growing demand for transit trade. It has a secure main operating centre in the Al-Jowfe Free Zone in the city of Kufra.
It reports that the trip from the port of Benghazi to the Libyan-Chadian border point takes less than ten days. Until the middle of this year, it reports that there have been seven convoys totalling over 100 trucks.
