After holding its first AGM for the best part of a decade, the Libyan Business Council (LBC) today elected a new board of directors.
The elections led to the success of the current chairman, Rashid Swani. Swani, it will be recalled, was ‘‘appointed’’ by the current Economy and Trade Minister, Mohamed Hwej. This was as a result of court cases between members of the previous LBC board had dragged on inconclusively, leaving the LBC ineffective.
Swani will be chairman for the next three years.
Following the election results, the LBC said ‘‘as a step in support of the national economy, the southern, eastern and western LBC branches were approved to work as one group within the framework of the LBC’s new strategy and a future vision to support the public and private sectors’’.
