Sebha International Airport was inaugurated yesterday during a lavish ceremony following the completion of its construction and equipping under the supervision of the National Development Authority (NDA).
The inauguration was attended by the NDA Director General, Mahmoud Al-Farjani, along with representatives from the General Command of the eastern based Libyan Arab Armed Forces, members of the Libyan House of Representatives, several mayors, representatives of local airlines, and dignitaries and tribal leaders from various social councils.
The NDA reported that the airport’s opening reflects the scale of the developmental transformation underway in the southern region under its implementation. This initiative is part of a national vision aimed at developing infrastructure and restoring vital facilities across the southern cities, it added.
The NDA said the airport was built according to modern specifications and equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, representing a significant addition to the air transport sector in the southern region.
It said that it is a strategic step towards enhancing transportation and services, connecting southern cities with other parts of the country, and contributing to development and improving the level of services provided to citizens.
This project truly embodies a new phase of construction, development, and the restoration of state institutions. It sends a clear message that southern Libya is now at the heart of reconstruction and development projects, within a national framework aimed at building a more stable and prosperous future, the NDA said.
