The Libyan government led by Prime Minister Abd Alhamid Aldabaiba has lost a behind-closed-doors vote of confidence in Parliament (House of Representatives – HoR) today by 89 votes out of the 113 members present.
The surprise result of the vote, reported by HoR Official Spokesperson Abdalla Belheeg, means that the government will now continue to run the country but in a reduced capacity of a ‘‘caretaker’’ government.
Committee to study election law for parliament
On another note, the HoR announced yesterday that it had also formed a committee to study Law No. 10 of 2014 on the election of the House of Representatives and study the necessary amendments for it.
The outcomes of this Committee are to be presented to the House of Representatives and this Committee has the right to seek the assistance of the Legislative and Constitutional Committee of the House. The Committee must present its proposal during next week’s session.
