London, 13 July 2021:
The House of Representatives (HoR) failed to vote on the draft 2021 budget again today. It postponed deliberations until after Eid Al-Adha (Tuesday 20 July) with Monday 26 being the likely date for the next session.
The official excuse given by HoR Official Spokesperson Abdalla Belheeg was that there was not the needed quorum of 120 members to hold a vote. He reported that 82 members were present.
However, the reality is that both the HoR and the government were unable to reach a compromise on the size and details of the budget as well as disagreements between different factions within the HoR.
Some members aired their criticism of the HoR in failing to deliver some kind of budget to the Libyan people which they said only went further to tarnish the HoR’s bad reputation.
