London, 4 March 2021:
After being hit by the reality of today’s 24-hour media cycle and confronted by the avalanche of the unforgiving social media output, the Media Department of the designated Libyan Government of National Unity (GNU) finally caved-in and launched its ‘‘official’’ Facebook page on Tuesday.
The inexperienced GNU team found itself fighting one wave of inaccurate information, rumours and straight forward fake news after another. They also had to contend with fake pages bearing their official emblem.
The Official Spokesperson for designated GNU prime minister, Abd Alhamid Aldabaiba, had informed the Libya Herald last week that they had no plans to launch new social media sites as they intended to takeover the sites of the Faiez Serraj led Presidency Council and Government of National Accord.
However, the designated administration has found out the hard way that the media war was as important as any of the other battles it will have on its hands.
They have also found out that they will have to spend much reactive time, putting out news and information fires as their enemies will spare no effort in undermining and discrediting them. Welcome to democracy!
Unfortunately, they are still inconsistent in the English spelling of their prime minister’s name.
