London, 1 December 2020:

Libya’s High National Elections Commission (HNEC) welcomed Monday the allocation of LD 50 million by the internationally recognized Libyan government, led by Faiez Serraj and based in Tripoli through its decree 851/2020, for the proposed elections.

HNEC affirmed its commitment to the financial budget to cover the costs of implementing presidential and parliamentary elections scheduled for December 24, 2021 and vowed to put the decision into effect.

This announcement by HNEC came during the meeting held by its head Emad Al-Sayeh, in the presence of a member of his top department heads.

The meeting reviewed the necessary arrangements needed for the implementation of the decree and stressed the adoption of the principle of transparency in the procedures and aspects of disbursing the allocated amount by preparing financial reports periodically and presenting them to the supervisory authorities, as well as taking all measures to limit the methods and practices that lead to the waste of public money.

It will be recalled that the UNSMIL-brokered 75-member Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF) had decided to hold Libyan elections on 24 December 2021.
