London, 30 August 2020:

  • New Benghazi private sector hospital to open soon
  • Modern looking hospital will add to growing private healthcare sector
  • Hospital approved by Privatization and Investment Board (PIB)
  • PIB approval enables investment project to take advantage of tax breaks/incentives
  • Hospital aims to localize top healthcare
  • Hospital aims to reduce health tourism by Libyans abroad
  • Outpatients’ clinics already open to patients
  • Will bring in visiting medical teams

The soon to be opened Dar Al-Shifa specialist hospital in Benghazi said that the aim of its project is to localize healthcare treatment for Libyan citizens within the country over the next 10 years.

The statement was made ahead of the hospital’s opening by the eastern-based Economy Minister last Monday (24 August) during a follow-up visit. The visit included a number of other officials including from the Wahda Bank, Benghazi Chamber of Commerce and the eastern branch of the Privatization and Investment Board (PIB).

The hospital reports that it is a fully equipped regional facility with a capacity of more than 160 beds located on a geographical area on a geographical level of 3 hectares, including one and a half hectares of site for cars and services, and half hectares of clinics and operating rooms integrated and equipped with the latest equipment, to ensure the accuracy of the diagnosis and correct treatment.

The outpatients’ clinics are already open to patients, and in two months the hospital’s inpatient, care and operations departments will be opened.

The hospital has also vowed that soon after the situation in the countries improves it will bring in visiting medical teams, and that the cost of healthcare will still be affordable to locals, even those with limited incomes.

It will be recalled that on 29 April this year, Libya’s eastern branch of the Privatization and Investment Board (PIB) had announced that it had completed the approval process of the Dar al-Shifa Hospital, owned by Al Rehab Health Services Company.

The 150-bed hospital covers various specialties and care rooms and a university hospital department for training medical staff. The PIB said the project will contribute to solving the inpatient problem in the city of Benghazi.

The PIB is the Libyan authority that encourages investment in the country through offering various tax breaks (Law No. 9 / 2010).

All foreign investors wishing to invest in Libya must operate through the PIB.
