The NOC plans to transform Ras Lanuf into Libya’s first Smart City (Logo: RASCO).

London, 14 December 2019:

Libya’s state National Oil Corporation plans to transform the oil town of Ras Lanuf into Libya’s first Smart City.

The coastal town is home to the Ras Lanuf oil refinery located 354 km west of Benghazi and 667 km east of Tripoli along the country’s main coastal road.

The revelation came after a meeting last Monday between the NOC, Ras Lanuf and telecoms giant Ericsson aimed at turning the town into a 4G and 5G hub.

Describing the project, Ras Lanuf reported that the Smart City Project will be an innovative city that uses ICT to improve quality of life, efficiency of operations and services, and competitiveness.

These advantages should also be reflected in meeting the needs of current and future generations in terms of economic, social and cultural aspects, so that any city can become smart.

This is what the NOC aspires to implement the smart city project in many cities with the required infrastructure in the framework of strengthening the role of the National Petroleum Corporation in the aspect of sustainable development and good neighbourliness, it concluded.
