Benghazi, 25 May 2017:
The Libyan National Army (LNA) is to ease its blockade of Derna during Ramadan. Food, medicine, cooking gas and fuel will be allowed into the town which has been under siege for two years.
The deal was brokered by a reconciliation committee which included tribal leaders and Derna mayor, Hamad Al Shalawi, said the pro-Beida LANA news agency.
The town and its environs are the last eastern area the Libyan National Army (LNA) does not control. It has been surrounded and blockaded since June 2015 when its Shoura Council ousted the so-called Islamic State. The population normally sustains itself with goods smuggled through LNA lines or brought in by boat.
