Tunis, 4 April 2017:
British ambassador Peter Millett has denied reports on social media that the British embassy in Tripoli had reopened. “This is not correct”, he tweeted after the reports or a reopening emerged. The confusion followed a statement that the embassy, which is based in Tripoli Tower, was operating normally. However, this was then explained to mean that it was operating through regular visits by staff.
These currently operate out of Tunis.
As to reopening on a permanent basis, the ambassador told the Libya Herald that it was “under constant review”. In regard to the visa section, the hope was also to reopen it as soon as possible.
