Tripoli, 27 April 2016:

Despite having been ejected last week from the buildings it was using next to the Tripoli’s Rixos Hotel, the General National Congress (GNC) today claimed it was still alive and functioning. It did not say where it was now based or who was still involved in it.

Ordering the “National Salvation Government” headed by Khalifa Ghwell to continue working, it again insisted it was the only legitimate Libyan legislature.

It condemned last week’s takeover of the buildings, which are now being used by the de facto State Council, and called on the Supreme Court to intervene and rule on the legality of both the council and the Libyan Political Agreement.

Meanwhile, questions are being asked as to the whereabouts of GNC president Nuri Abu Sahmain. He has not been seen or heard of since forces backing State Council president Abdulrahman Sewehli took over the Rixos complex last Friday.

One report speaks of him trying to get back to his hometown Zuwara, near the border with Tunisia, but still in Tripoli because traveling by land risked arrest en route, while the same fate awaited him if he tried to fly out of Mitiga. It is controlled by Abdul Raouf Kara and Haithem Tajouri, both of whom support the Presidency Council.

However, another report claims that he has been smuggled into Zuwara.

It has not been confirmed. [/restrict]
