Benghazi, 26 October 2015:
UN special envoy Benrardino Leon has flown to Cairo for talks with the head of . . .[restrict]the Arab League, Nabil El-Araby, and Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry over the stalled Libya Dialogue deal and proposed national unity government.
He wants them to put pressure on the House of Representatives (HoR) to agree to the deal. Last Monday, it refused to endorse it by the 20 October deadline set by Leon.
There have also been unconfirmed reports that he would also meet HoR president Ageela Saleh Gwaider who likewise is in the Egyptian capital. In his case, he has been trying to drum up Egyptian support for the HoR’s position.
As a result of Saleh’s absence, the HoR in Tobruk has meanwhile postponed its session today. As a result, there will be no discussion of the Dialogue or naming of a new delegation to the negotiations in Skhirat, announced last week.
It had been reported that the next Skhirat session would start tomorrow, Tuesday, but it is now said that it will not take place until Wednesday at the earliest, but more probably Thursday. [/restrict]
