Tripoli, 26 September 2015:
Fire destroyed a Zuwara filling station yesterday. Heavy rain appears to have flooded a badly . . .[restrict]sealed forecourt petrol tank, forcing fuel to the surface which then ignited.
As well as the filling station itself, a number of cars was destroyed by burning pools of petrol. So intense was the blaze that portions of the road were burnt up.
According to the town’s media office, some air vents on had been left open. An official health and safety investigation has been launched with a pledge that those guilty of negligence and ignoring safety standards will be punished. The media office also said that the enquiry would look into compensating people who lost vehicles in the blaze.
There are no reports of any injuries. [/restrict]
