There was fighting today in Ajilat, some 80 kilometres west of Tripoli, despite the town’s . . .[restrict]declaration of a ceasefire and the move into the town last weekend by the Libyan National (LNA).
There are radically different reports of what caused the fighting and what happened. One, the anti-LNA position, is that some of the LNA’s support forces attacked the homes of Libya Dawn supporters but that the attack was beaten back.
The other, the pro-LNA report, is that fighters from Salah Badi’s new Samoud Front (also known as Libya Dawn Mark 2) attacked the town this morning in a bid to break the LNA’s forces there but were repelled.
Medium-calibre weaponry is said to have been used, but there are no reports so far of casualties.
Despite the clashes, the truce in the west is still in operation. [/restrict]
