Year-end exams are underway for primary and secondary school students in Gharyan.
Students sat them this week, . . .[restrict]beginning Sunday and continuing on through today, ahead of the dates scheduled by the education ministry.
Nagi Shanana, head of the Education Affairs and Educational Council for the Gharyan Municipality, said that the council recently met with the principals of six schools within Gharyan and the director of examinations for Gharyan. A the meeting the council were told that the majority of teachers had completed the curriculum for the year.
As a result, the council decided to begin exams early because of the difficult circumstances that the town is facing.
Shanana added that many students have had to flee areas where armed clashes have been taking place. Those that have remained within Gharyan had been allowed to sit for their year-end exams in other schools located in areas where their families had taken shelter. [/restrict]
