Benghazi, 9 May 2015:

The Benghazi Medical Centre (BMC) has again been hit by a missile. A shell hit . . .[restrict]the upper part of the main reception building early this morning. Fortunately there were no casualties although there were many people in the building and the area at the time. The reception block houses the hospital’s accident and emergency facilities.

This is the third time in less than three months that the centre has been hit by random rocket fire. On 21 February, a shell exploded near its third tower. Then on 13 April, the fifth and sixth floors of one of the centre’s towers was hit.

BMC is one of only two fully functioning hospitals working in the city, the other being Jalaa Hospital. At the edge of Fuwayhat, it is not far from continuing military action to dislodge Ansar Al-Sharia and its allies from positions they still hold.

It is not known who fired the missile or whether it was a random strike. However, according to the BMC’s media official, Islamic State (IS) forces yesterday issued a threat to target it. [/restrict]
