Tobruk, 12 April 2015:
Tobruk Municipal Council and the Arabian Gulf Oil Company (AGOCO) are collaborating to solve Tobruk’s water . . .[restrict]problems.
Heads of AGOCO’s excavation, geology and exploration departments together with the mayor of Tobruk, visited a site south of the town this week to assess where new wells should be drilled.
Tobruk Municipality spokesperson Marwan Bakr told the Libya Herald that AGOCO took a team to the Sidi Ahbish area, some 120 kilometres south of Tobruk, with equipment to determine the best locations for wells. Locations were marked for future drilling.
Bakr added that the collaboration will extend to drilling for water in an additional locations around Bir Hakim, also south of Tobruk.
Bir Hakim is where, 73 years ago, the Free French army held back the German army, and enabled the Allies to to rebuild their forces and counter attack al El Alamein. Some of the detritus of that battle can still be seen at the site.
