Beida, 27 March 2015:

There have been angry protests  by Sebha security guards, after one of their number, on . . .[restrict]duty during Wednesday’s LD 7  million bank robbery died in custody, allegedly as a result of torture.

Ahmed Abdulgader’s body was brought to Sebha Medical Centre on yesterday morning in circumstances that remain unclear. It is being claimed that   during the heist, the three bank robbers also chained and tortured Abdulgader.

It appears that the guard was then detained by an unknown group of men. It is being presumed that he was interrogated violently and died while in custody.

A resident who lives in  Sebha’s Al-Jadeed district and was a neighbour of the dead security guard told the Libya Herald that Abdulgader had been on duty alone and would have been the only witness to the robbery. “He must have known the thieves and that’s why he has been taken away and murdered”.

The resident was one of those who joined the protesting security people yesterday morning. ““We are demanding the Sebha directorate to reveal the truth and bring perpetrators of this atrocity to court. This crime cannot be allowed to pass”.

The town’s Al-Jadeed district is mainly lived in by members of Awld Hudair and Megharah tribes, who also protested last week in solidarity with their people in Brak Chatti. [/restrict]
