Tripoli, 19 January 2015:
There has been heavy fighting some 10 kilomtres south of Sabratha between local fighters allied to . . .[restrict]Libya Dawn and Libya National Army forces from Zintan and the Warshefana. According to Libya Dawn, two of its fighters were killed in the clashes.
Zintan Operations Room (ZOR) says that the fighting which started yesterday is the fiercest in months. It maintains that Zawia forces have pulled out from Sabratha in order to defend positions between Zawia and Sorman. Its own forces, it claims, have managed to take a number of places in the area as a result, including Al-Agrabia and Ras Tifla.
There also reports too that the militia in Sabratha has ordered local shops to close because of the dangers.
There have been no airstrikes, however, according to the ZOR. This, apparently, was not because of a shortage of aviation fuel but because of the ceasefire ordered by the LNA Chief of Staff. “We’re not fighting,” an ZOR official claimed, “we’re defending”.
He denied reports that Wattiya airbase was being shelled. The nearest Libya Dawn forces were now over 85 kilometres away and could not target the base, he alleged. [/restrict]
