Kufra, 20 November 2014:
Armed men stole LD 1 million in cash when they stormed the Al-Wahda Bank . . .[restrict]branch for the Man Made River (MMR) company in Benghazi’s Hawari district after vandalising bank surveillance cameras.
The bank’s security director who wished to remain anonymous told the Libya Herald that Tuesday’s attack on the bank was the third in a month.
“Last week,” he said, “an MMR official in Sirte was abducted by unidentified men on the outskirts of the town. Two weeks ago, two security guards at the MMR headquarters in Benghazi were killed trying to prevent armed men from stealing cars outside of the complex”.
The MMR has been forced to scale back on its own security in recent months for the safety of the security staff.
“Because of the increased danger after dark, our security staff members leave the complex by 4 pm to avoid being caught in the cross-fire on their way home from work,” said the security director.
