Tripoli, 7 August 2014:
Although Libyan Foreign Minister Mohamed Abdulaziz . . .[restrict]met Arab League General Secretary Nabil Al-Arabi on Saturday, ahead of today’s emergency Arab League meeting, the crisis in Libya does not appear to have received much attention.
The foreign ministers’ agenda did include an Egyptian initiative to bring a resolution to Libya’s current crisis and ways to support the legitimate governing bodies.
However, discussion appears to have been dominated by the threats posed to regional stability by the Islamic State (ISIL) operating in Syria and Iraq. In the end, the Arab League reached a consensus on support for a military confrontation against ISIL but neglected to issue any statement about Libya. [/restrict]
