Air Malta has start flying to Djerba to provide a service to those wishing to get to Malta . . .[restrict]from Libya and Libyans and others in Malta wishing to get to Libya. Djerba is the closest Tunisian airport to the Libyan border.
Air Malta started the service today.
According to Air Malta the flights will be operated twice weekly, Thursdays and Sundays, until 23 October 2014.
The one-hour flights depart Malta on Thursdays at 2:55 pm and from Djerba at 3:55 pm (all times are local). The Sunday flights have a 3:55 pm departure from Malta and a 4:55 pm departure from Djerba.
This announcement comes on the heels of another announcement regarding travel from Malta to Libya. Virtu Ferries has announced they will offer ferry service between the two countries beginning 12 August. Its tickets are priced at €1,000 each way. [/restrict]
