Tripoli, 8 June 2014:

Derna has seen some of its worst violence since the revolution over the past three days . . .[restrict]in fighting between Ansar Al-Sharia and the Abu Sleem Martyrs Brigade.   The fighting follows the killing at the end of last month of Abu Sleem brigade commander Mohamed Abu Bilal, in car explosion. The brigade blames Ansar Al-sharia for his death.

The violence started on Friday night and continued until dawn this morning. It resulted in a senior leader of Ansar Al-Sharia, Moutaz Ahmed Almrash, being killed.

Two car bombings meanwhile shook the city.  One targeted the vehicle of Omar Al-Shalali, the leader of Ansar Al-Sharia; the other on Rifai Street in the Jubailah area was aimed at Ameen Al-Kabayli, a commander in the Abu Sleem Martyrs Brigade.

Explosions also damaged a number of houses in Derna. An explosion hit the house of Waleed Bouzaid of the Abu Sleem Martyrs Brigade, situated near a medical clinic.

A second explosion targeted the house of Jadallah Al-Mansouri, also of the Abu Sleem Martyrs Brigade.  The blast, which occurred in the west of the town area near the Ali Ibn Abi Talib Mosque destroyed the front of the house.

A third explosion targeted the house of Ansar Al-Sharia member Nasser Shibash Al-Shaari, causing material damage.

At present there there is an uneasy calm in the town. [/restrict]
