Tripoli, 15 June 2014:
Libya’s largest southern town, Sebha, celebrated World . . .[restrict]Blood Donor Day–14 June–at the Sebha Blood Centre, honouring a number of people for their tremendous contribution in giving their blood. The year’s theme for the worldwide event was Safe Blood for Saving Mothers, intended to raise awareness of the need to increase blood bank reserves for emergencies during childbirth .
“Yesterday we celebrated World Blood Donor Day by honouring a number of blood donors,” centre administrator Ahmed Al-Jabery told the Libya Herald.
“This celebration will surely encourage voluntary work and encourage more donors as well as increase awareness amongst people of the significance of voluntary blood donation,” added Jabery.
Sebha town saw bloody armed clashes earlier this year which produced major shortages in medical equipment and in blood that might have conceivably saved a significant number of lives. [/restrict]
