Tripoli, 14 June 2014:
An armed gang wrecked and burnt part of Tripoli’s National Centre for Disease Control in an . . .[restrict]attack involving heavy machine guns and RPGs.
A number of guards was injured in the assault in the early hours of this morning. Their guardroom was shot up and torched as were several cars and busses at the centre. Attackers however stole other vehicles. Extensive damage was done to the facility.
It is unclear who mounted the raid or why the National Centre for Disease Control should have been targeted.
The Centre’s management today thanked the fire brigade from preventing greater fire damage. They also said they were grateful for the support of staff and locals in helping out after the attack.
