Tripoli, 23 April 2014:
Militant Islamists in Mizdah have thrown out two male doctors working in the gynaecology and . . .[restrict]obstetrics department of the local hospital, leaving the facility without any specialist staff.
“I condemn what these men did,” an official at Mizdah Local Council told the Libya Herald, after confirming the incident.
“Local people tried to intervene, but they were unable to stop the men,” he said. “They begged the men to stop, asking: ‘How could you do this? What gives you the right to do something like this?’”
The doctors had originally been brought from Tripoli because there were no local specialists, the council official said. “Now there are no specialist gynaecological doctors at the hospital and local people will have to travel to other towns and cities to receive treatment.” [/restrict]
