Tripoli, 10 December 2013:
An official from the passports office in Sirte was killed last night when gunmen opened fire on his . . .[restrict]car.
Colonel Ramadan Al-Tarooq was hit seven times when his car was riddled with bullets fired from another vehicle at 10 pm, a source close to Sirte Local Council told the Libya Herald. The other vehicle then sped away from the scene of the crime, which took place in downtown Sirte near the Corniche.
Investigations are underway by the local branch of Criminal Investigation Department, he added.
The elders and local council released a statement this morning condemning the assassination and demanding that the General National Congress (GNC) and government take swift action to stop violence and prevent further assassinations.
The local council also demanded additional security support in the town to help the local police and army do their job and get rid of armed criminals and gangs. [/restrict]
