Tripoli, 26 November 2013:
Yesterday afternoon protesters with placards and Libyan flags gathered in Tripoli’s Algeria Square to support . . .[restrict]victims of clashes earlier in the day in Benghazi between the army’s Special Forces Saiqa Brigade and Ansar Al-Sharia.
The demonstrators were mostly university students who have been on strike since the Gharghoor massacre. The protest was then addressed by by local community activists who they expressed their anger about the deteriorating situation in the east of the country.
The participation was small but vociferous with a significant number of onlookers in attendance. The square was closed to traffic for the event, causing disruption in the area. The protest continued through Magheb (Dusk) prayers, with anti–war and pro-peace in Benghazi chants.
Later in the evening, some 40 fresh army recruits paraded in Martyrs Square. The government has sent large numbers of former revolutionaries abroad for training to help build a new Libyan army.
