Tripoli, 11 November 2013:
An anti-tank mine was found . . .[restrict]on one of Benghazi’s popular shopping streets yesterday and defused.
The device was found in a bag on Venisia Street, in Benghazi’s Hawari district, by Special Forces, spokesman for the Benghazi Joint Security Room, Abdullah Zaidi, told the Libya Herald. Bomb disposal experts were immediately called to the scene and the mine was defused and taken away.
Since the revolution, Venisia Street has become one of Benghazi’s principal clothes shopping areas, home to stores selling high-end brands. Zaidi said that if the device had exploded, it could have caused a huge amount of damage.
A number of bombs have been found and defused in the last few weeks, including one outside the Benghazi Medical Centre on Tuesday last week. [/restrict]
