Coinciding with a fuel shortage crisis in Western Libya and as part of its wider anti-fuel smuggling campaign manifested in a series of raids, arrests and seizures, the Attorney General’s Office reported last Monday (11 August) that the Public Prosecution has ordered the pre-trial detention and charging of the head of the Bakers’ Syndicate in Zlitan Municipality pending investigation.

The official is charged with disposing of half of the quantity of subsidised diesel he received to meet the needs of bakeries from April 2024 to July 2025, estimated at 8.549 million litres, and disposing of them for the benefit of fuel smuggling groups.

His co-contributors to the incidents are also under investigation and prosecution.
