Tripoli, 23 June 2013:
Prime Minister Ali Zeidan has said that the power to detain people rests with the Ministry . . .[restrict]of the Interior, the public prosecutor and the police, not with brigades, whether “legitimate or non-legitimate”.
Zeidan added that there were some armed groups which raided houses, public property and warehouses and confiscated property and goods claiming falsely that they have the judicial power to do this as part of the Revolution.
Stressing that the government will not allow these attacks, Zeidan said every effort will be made to stop such crimes. He warned that these attacks will be met with the utmost severity and firmness.
He called on all Libyans to be armed with awareness and not allow to anyone to destabilise the security of the state .
The commander of the Abu Saleem Martyrs Brigade, Salem Draibi used a TV interview to accuse the Qaqaa and Aswehli Brigades of being “non-legitimate”, claiming that they include members of Qaddafi’s former Special Forces.
There have been reports that hundreds of revolutionaries from the east of the country would move towards Tripoli against “non-legitimate” brigades, which are supposed to number in their ranks some of Qaddafi’s old revolutionary guards as well as common criminals.
For his part the Commander of Qaqaa Brigade, Othman Mliqta condemned Salem Derbi ‘s claims, asserting that Qaqaa has no criminals nor Qaddafi elements.
