Tripoli, 16 May 2013:

Maintenance work in the town of Reyaina yesterday ended in tragedy, after a communication tower belonging . . .[restrict]to mobile operator Almadar Aljadid Company fell, causing the death of a 9 year-old boy named as Abdelbari Mouftha Hussein.

Libya Herald has learnt that preliminary investigations indicate that the tower may have fallen due to windy weather conditions and technician negligence. The exact location of the tower has yet to be reported but it was in close proximity to the town’s central primary school.

Comments posted on the Facebook page of the Reyaina media center, extend condolences, make calls for those responsible to be brought to justice, and demand better safety measure from Almadar and its contractors during installations and maintenance work.

Officials from Almadar, and the Ministry of Communication and Information, were in the town yesterday after the accident occurred, and will attend Hussein’s burial today.

Al Madar has issued its condolences in the name of “all employees”, praying for “solace and patience” for the boy’s family. Likewise, the Ministry of Communication conveys, “hearts are filled with grief and sorrow” over the passing of Hussein.

A formal investigation into the incident is ongoing. [/restrict]
