Tripoli, 29 April 2013:

Libya’s highest religious leader, the Grand Mufti of Libya, Sheikh Sadeq Al-Ghariani, has condemned the bombing . . .[restrict]of the French embassy.

Moreover, he seemed to launch a scathing attack on the Zeidan government for its failure to protect embassies, its failure to report results of its investigations, and accused it of negligence in view of the American consulate in Benghazi.

In a statement or edict issued today Dar Al-Fatwa, the highest religious council of Libya, condemned “all attacks that take place throughout Libya, south, east and west, and condemns, in particular, the bombing which happened in the last few days in front of the French Embassy and the physical and moral damage caused by such explosions as well as being an intimidation to people’s safety and security”.

The statement went on to say that it “believes that such an incident – in addition to its serious and complex repercussions on Foreign Affairs – is contrary to the teachings of Islam, which enjoins justice, encourages fulfillment of Covenants and forbids treachery”.

Islam forbids the killing of ambassadors

More pertinently, the statement said that “we must never forget that Almighty Allah and His Messenger forbid the killing of ambassadors, messengers, custodians and covenanters, as well as the killing of Muslims”.

Dar al-Ifta did not, however, absolve the government from responsibility and went as far as to accuse the government of negligence.

Which makes us all wonder the reasons of such negligence..

It noted that while it “deplores what has happened, it calls upon the government and all security agencies to take all necessary measures to prevent the recurrence of such incidents and must make one of their top priorities the provision of intensive security around embassies, which makes us all wonder the reasons of such negligence in providing protection for embassies after what had happened to the American consulate in Benghazi”.

Lack of results from its numerous investigations..

Dar al-Ifta also criticised the government for the lack of results from its numerous investigations. It called “for the launch of serious investigations into the incident and in all the explosions that threaten the security of the country and to declare the results of such investigations in order to determine responsibilities”.

Investigations never seem to come to an end

It then continued and remarked that it was “used to officials launching investigations into criminal matters that seemed to have a beginning but such investigations never seem to come to an end”,.And with regards to corruption, the statement read that “while administrative and financial corruption, they, unfortunately, neither seem to have a beginning, nor an end”.
