Tripoli, 6 April 2013:
A delegation from the office of Iraqi president, Jalil Talabani is due in Tripoli next week to discuss . . .[restrict]the repatriation of Libyans held in Iraqi jails, reported LANA this evening.
On 16 March, Libya’s Minister of Justice, Salah Al-Marghani, and his Iraqi counterpart, Hassan Shimari signed a prisoner exchange deal, that included provisions for judicial cooperation.
Libyan lobbyists, who had been calling for the immediate return of prisoners held in Iraq, cautioned at the time that the agreement was only a memorandum of understanding and that no immediate action was guaranteed. The Iraqi authorities would wish to review each case individually. There are believed to be 16 convicted Libyans in Iraqi jails, six of them sentenced to death. [/restrict]
