Tripoli, 6 December:
Hatif Libya, the Libyan phone company, has signed a contract with Chinese telecoms company Huawei for a cable maintenance . . .[restrict]and expansion project link in Wahat region. The LD 6.5-million project is for maintenance of the existing offshore underwater cable and the installation of a “next generation” digital cable between Ajdabiya and Kufra.
Tuesday’s signing ceremony was attended by the Minister of Communications, Osama Siala.
“We will be focusing in the coming period on providing the needed services for the users and the ways to improve the standards of services provided through telecommunications companies affiliated with the ministry”, Siala was quoted by the ministry’s website as saying, adding that that project would link the east and west of the country as well as north and south.
Last month, ADSL internet services were set up in Kufra by telecommunications company LTT. Until that point internet services there had been confined to expensive internet cafes in the town centre or through less than adequate internet facilities provided by internet agents. [/restrict]
