Tripoli, 31 October:
A festival of Amazigh (Berber) culture is to be held in Jadu in the Jebel Nafusa between 7 and 9 November.
Jadu is a stronghold of Tamazight, the language of the Amazigh.
The festival, entitled Ta Fissweet, is being organised by the Ministry of Culture’s Amazigh culture department.
According to committee coordinator Omar Salim Ehbail, the festival will include exhibitions, seminars, photos and displays of the ancient civilization of the Amazigh.
The festival will be attended by groups from across Libya. It will also feature artists from Tunisia, Morocco and Algeria. They have all have significant Tamazight-speaking populations.
Morocco is the only country where Tamazight is an official language alongside Arabic. [/restrict]
