Tripoli, 30 July:

Studio Basel, an Arab-American public relations company, has launched an international photography competition entitled “Capture the Spirit of Ramadan”. The 2012 edition of the annual competition is set to feature a range of amateur and professional photographers from across the world, and is open to anone over the age of 18.

The inaugural competition, took place last year, and received more than 1000 photos from entrants in 40 countries. There were no Libyan entries, which is unsurprising given the turmoil that the country faced 12 months ago, but there have already been several submissions from Libyan photographers for this year’s edition. They include Omar Faraj Bushiha, Serag Zwait, Mohammed El-Alwany, Aimen Salem Ashur, Taha Krewi, Al-Motasem Bellah Dhawi, Mohamed Taher Ben Khalifa, Naziha Arebi and Asma Elkazir

Entries can cover any topic related to or inspired by Ramadan, and may be submitted throughout the month. The winning photographs and selected other entries will be published in a book, which the organisers hope will serve to celebrate Ramadan as well as educating young people about the holy month. Photos can be submitted and viewed at www.facebook.com/ramadanphotography and further information can be found at www.capturethespiritoframadan.org .
