Benghazi, 5 June:
A checkpoint in Bengahzi’s Gwarsha district was destroyed today in fighting between members of the local brigade . . .[restrict]and a local family who accuse them of killing their son.
The checkpoint was attacked following an earlier incident in which a young member of the security forces was shot as he was driving through the check point. Named as Marwan Faidi, he was stopped by while driving one of the forces’ vehicles by a member of the Gwarsha Martyrs’ Brigade who questioned him about the car’s documents. For reasons that are still unclear, an argument erupted between the two. It is claimed that the brigade member intended to intimidate Marwan by firing into the air. However, he fired a fatal shot into Marwan’s head instead.
When the young man’s family were informed of the incident, they immediately went and attacked the checkpoint. The exchange of fire resulted in its total destruction.
