Tripoli, 7 May:
Bani Walid local council has reported that one of its members, Abdul Salam Mohammed Abu Kraa, was kidnapped from . . .[restrict]his home in Tripoli on Saturday.
Elements from the town are said to have been involved.
Abu Kraa was the original founder of the local council during last year’s revolution. However, there is bitter resentment in the town towards both the revolution and those who represent it, and residual support for the Qaddafi regime. As a result, members of both the local council and the military council have had to leave Bani Walid and are currently based in Misrata, or in Abu Kraa’s case, Tripoli. The NTC is said to have next to no influence in Bani Walid or over its brigades.
If Bani Walid residents are responsible for Abu Kraa’s disappearance, it will be their second kidnapping. Last month the Zliten Revolutionaries’ Brigade said that four members of Zliten’s Supreme Security Committee were seized by Bani Walid’s Al-Fatah battalion while on their way to Sebha on a security mission.
