Benghazi, April 1: Revolutionaries who were guarding Bengahzi’s Benina Airport have joined the Interior Ministry and are to go on training courses . . .[restrict]organized by the ministry during the coming days according to Colonel Hamdi Al-Obeidi from the Benghazi passport office.
Speaking to Al-Manara, Al-Obeidi said that the agreement was reached during a meeting at the airport last Thursday evening and attended by, among others, the deputy minister for the eastern region, the director of airport security, heads of immigration control, airport customs and civil defence, Benghazi’s passport office, the president of the aviation police as well as four leaders of the revolutionaries and a number of security forces’ commanders.
It was agreed at the meeting to that no weapons should be paraded in and around the vicinity of the airport. Al-Obaidi added that the airport now is under the complete control of the Libyan authorities. A promise was made, however, by the government through the Interior Ministry to meet all essential needs to ensure the security and protection of the airport and everyone using it.
Al-Obeidi also stated that the Interior Ministry is now in full control of the border crossing of Musaid and that a complete electronic system will be operational within weeks to regulate travel from and into Libya. The border was temporarily closed just over a week ago by revolutionaries complaining about smuggling and the lack of sufficient government officials there.
