Tripoli, 6 March 2015:
Islamic State militants this afternoon attacked another oilfield killing eight people and damaging equipment and installations . . .[restrict]before apparently withdrawing. There are unconfirmed reports that a Filipino and an Austrian worker were abducted by the attackers.
The National Oil Corporation said that eight members of the Petroleum Facilities Guard had died in the assault on the Ghani field which is operated by the Harouge oil company. Prior to the reports about the abductions, a NOC spokesman had said that Harouge had managed to evacuate all its staff.
Ghani, to the south of Sirte, is less then one hundred kilometres from the Dahra, Bahi and Mabruk oil fields which were attacked and damaged two days ago by IS fighters.
A month ago, IS attacked the Mabruk oilfield, killing least ten people and abducting three Filipinos. Two Nigerians are also believed to have been seized. There has been no news of them since.
On Monday, IS attacked the Bahi, Dahra and again the Mabruk fields. It briefly captured the first two after Petroleum Facilities Guards withdraw after running out of ammunition. [/restrict]
