Tripoli, 24 April 2014:
Benghazi’s Hawari hospital flooded yesterday, for the second time this month, leaving a number of departments . . .[restrict]unable to function properly.
“The water system flooded, resulting in leaks in medicine stores, the administration department and the scanning unit,’’ Hawari hospital spokesperson Hanni Al-Erabi told the Libya Herald.
Earlier this month, a similar flood forced the hospital’s surgical unit to close temporarily.
“The hospital needs urgent repairs and most of the water system pipelines are rusty,” said Erabi. “The hospital infrastructure is very old and needs a total overhaul. Contracts for these repairs were signed, but real work has yet to begin.”
The hospital is also in the process of digging water wells, so it can be more self-sufficient and ensure the premises have water supplies in the event of water shortages. [/restrict]
