Tripoli, 12 December 2016:

Reports that a bomb was found on Libyan Airlines plane before it took off from Tripoli’s Mitiga Airport fror Sfax in Tunisia today are untrue, according to the Rada (“Deterrence”) Forces which are based at the airport.

It had been stated that a homemade bomb was found by cabin staff in one of the aircraft’s lavatories.

In a statement published from the airport, security said no bomb was found. Bomb disposal experts had gone to the aircraft to inspect it after being contacted by cabin staff who reported the presence in the lavatory of an object thought to be bomb. This turned out to be some equipment accidentally left on board by one of the aircraft cleaners.

The incident nonetheless succeededin delaying flights out of Mitiga. In the case of the Mitiga-Sfax flight, which should have departed by 13:45 hours, it did not take off for another three hours. It finally touched down in Sfax at 18:00 instead of 14:30.
