Tunis, 27 July 2016:
A meeting in Tunis today between members of the Constitution Drafting Assemby (CDA) and a number of Libyan mayors was called off at the last minute after the mayors refused to attend.
Both the CDA members and the mayors are in the Tunisian capital for other business and the former had requested a meeting with the latter to promote and explain the proposed constitution, the final version of which was unveiled earlier this month.
“The CDA isn’t listening to anyone and it’s lost its credibility in Libya.” one mayor told the Libya Herald on condition of confidentiality. “They are trying to use us to regain it. We weren’t prepared to do that”.
Two days ago, the CDA members were apparently more successful in lobbying representatives of a number of Libyan tribes also in Tunis for a meeting.
